Llanerchaeron
Lydia and Lee chose historic Llanerchaeron for their wedding day. This wonderful location is nestled in the Aeron Valley near Aberaeron in West Wales. Now owned by the National Trust this traditional Welsh country estate is an ideal backdrop for a wedding day.

The elegant, Georgian villa at Llanerchaeron was originally designed by the famous architect John Nash in 1790. It stands in 760 acres of parkland, with farm buildings, a walled garden and a lake.

The photograph of Lydia and Lee above, is the view imagined by John Nash himself when he designed the house. At this angle you can view the entire villa and St Non's Church.

The couple wanted a simple celebration with close friends and family for their civil ceremony. The carriage house with its cobbled courtyard provides a unique setting for Lydia and Lee to 'tie the knot'.
On arrival I met up with Lee who was putting the finishing touches to the carriage house. We were both a little anxious about the weather due to the arrival of Storm Amy. The rain held off and there was plenty of time to capture the Groom with his family and friends.
Lydia arrived with her family, she looked amazing.
The ceremony was warm and heartfelt. Lydia's Dad proudly escorted his daughter down the aisle and with a small group of loved ones around them, Lydia and Lee exchanged their vows.
Congratulations Mr & Mrs Smith.
After the ceremony, we took time for some portraits. The gardens at Llanerchaeron are a joy at any time of the year. At our planning meeting we had set plenty of time aside for these photographs. Although I was only spending a short time with the couple on their wedding day I wanted to capture them in the walled garden, by the lake and in front of the Georgian villa. This venue is such a great location to work in. There are numerous ideal settings and perfect backdrops for photographs. It is hard to just select a few!

Always my favourite part of a wedding day is the time I get to capture those first photos of a couple as they begin their married life together.

I love Lydia's bridal bouquet of dried flowers by Winnie & Olive. A selection of British grown flowers and grasses in natural, earthy colours for Autumn. The gorgeous bouquets, buttonholes and table arrangements, highlighting the changing season, complimented the day perfectly.
The soft autumn light was ideal, however the tail end of storm Amy left some of the grounds by the lake out of bounds for photographs.
After some photographs with family and friends in the courtyard garden it was time for everyone to depart for further celebrations at Y Seler in Aberaeron.

Llanerchaeron provided a tranquil and lovely setting, it was the perfect choice for Lydia and Lee's small wedding.

Capturing these intimate moments for a couple is always an honour. Small, intimate weddings like this one show the true essence of a couple’s love. Every glance, every touch, speaks volumes. Lydia and Lee’s wedding day was one to remember, and their photos will keep those memories alive forever.

If you are planning a wedding at Llanerchaeron please get in touch if you would like me to capture your day.

const searchread_667965ccc2d4c6033c1fc6a6 = `Bella and Laurence's Wedding Day
at Nant y Walch Barn

Bella and Laurence chose the beautiful Irfon Valley in Wales as the location for their wedding, and I was honoured to capture the magical day through my lens.

Driving from Tregaron, over the Cambrian mountains was an adventure in itself. Bella and Laurence had their wedding date booked for the same day as the Man versus Horse Marathon. An annual event which takes place over 22 miles of mountainous terrain in the Llanwrtyd Wells area. I had no idea, until we passed cars and coach loads of spectators, that this was such a popular event. Luckily, Bella and Laurence had the foresight to change the time and location of their wedding ceremony, to avoid the worst of the traffic on the tiny little mountain roads.

As I arrived at St. David's Old Church in Cwm Irfon, Laurence was just pulling up with his Groomsmen. Nestled in the hills and overlooking the river Irfon, this little 11th century church was the perfect backdrop for Bella and Laurence's wedding ceremony. The church itself has a rich history and was for many years the property of the Cistercian Monastery at Strata Florida. A church has stood on the site for more that 1500 years, although architectural changes have been made over the years.

Upon arrival at St David's we were greeted by the unpredictable Welsh weather. The clouds had rolled in and were threatening rain. Fortunately, the weather improved as the day went by. Apart from a few spots of rain as Bella entered the church, we were blessed with a beautiful day.

Bella and Laurence exchanged their vows in front of their closest family and friends. There was so much love and joy in the little church that day, it was a pleasure to witness and capture.

After the ceremony, we had a few confetti shots with all the guests before they headed off to the reception. Meanwhile, I took Bella and Laurence to The Wash Pool for a few quiet moments and some Bride and Groom portraits. This magical spot along the Ifron river with it's waterfalls and overhanging trees, is a special place for Bella and Laurence. The Wash Pool was historically used for dipping sheep along the old Drover's route. However, on this occasion the location provided a stunning backdrop for the newlyweds' portraits. The natural beauty of the Welsh landscape truly shone through in each and every shot, and I couldn't be happier with the results.

It was soon time to join the rest of the guests at Nant y Walch Barn for the reception. This restored old stone barn was a perfect place for Bella and Laurence to relax and enjoy the remainder of their wedding day with family and friends. It soon became clear, once we were back at Nant y Walch, just how much of a team effort this wedding had been. From the flowers grown and put together by Bella, the wedding cake made by Kate (Mother of the Bride), the wine sourced and delivered by Carl and Cathy (Parents of the Groom), the catering prepared by a team of Groomsmen and guests, and many more wonderful details. A true testament to this lovely couple.

I am so lucky to be able to capture such beautiful moments for couples like Bella and Laurence. Being a part of their special day and capturing their love through my photographs is a privilege that I don't take lightly.

I have been photographing weddings for many years. I thought I would share a few of my wedding photography tips. Here, in no particular order, are a few of my favourites to think about before your big day.

The first of my wedding photography tips is for the Groomsmen. If you have a mobile and/or car keys on you, please don’t put them in a trouser pocket. It is not a good look in the photos. Place them in the inside jacket pocket where they won’t show.

Tips for the Bridal Party

It is a good idea for the Bride to have an ’emergency’ kit to hand when getting ready and throughout the day. Here are some suggestions for things to include in your kit. A pair of nail scissors to cut hanging tags and labels. A needle, thread and safety pins are always handy. An emery board to scuff the soles of new shoes. Hair pins, as the day wears on hairstyles can need a quick fix. Plasters in case your wedding shoes begin to rub. A pack of tissues, there are always tears at a wedding. I carry all of the above items in my camera bag, there aren’t many weddings where these items don’t get used. Other useful items include a lint roller, spare shirt buttons and bra tape.

Brides, please give yourself enough time to dress. Allow at least thirty minutes to put on your bridal gown if has a backboard and lacing or tiny button fastenings. Bridal shop assistants fasten the dress at a fitting with ease. The reality on the wedding day is quite different. I usually see a nervous Mum, Sister or friend who has never actually performed this task before, let alone tried to perform it with a set of acrylic nails. A crochet hook is a handy instrument for those tiny button fastenings.

Wedding Planning Meeting

It is essential to have a wedding venue meeting with your photographer. This way you can scout out the best locations for your photos in advance. Couples who have planned the details of their photography with me end up with the best results. I also recommend to my couples that following our planning meeting they go away and do a little homework. Look on Pinterest and in Bridal magazines to find photography ideas that will work with your venue and the style you want to adopt. Also, see how couples stand together in photos, what to do with their hands, whether they at the camera or at each other, etc. This all helps your photography to flow on the day and eliminates the element of surprise.

Share your planning details with close family members and the wedding party. It is important that they are all gathered in the right place in time for the group photos. You can lose twenty minutes of your photography time if a family member has wandered off to check in to a hotel. Let them know in advance if they are required for any special photos.

And Finally…

Those of you getting married in Church, have a conversation with your Priest or Vicar as to what photography they will allow. I am often told that no photographs are to be taken in church during the ceremony. This can be upsetting for a couple if this is a part of their wedding day they especially want documented. I always ask my couples to let me know what photography will be allowed for their wedding service, thus avoiding any disappointment.

Another good wedding photography tip is to buy yourself a wedding brolly. I work on the assumption that if you have purchased a brolly to keep the rain off during your bride and groom shots, you will never actually need it. Very rarely has this proved me wrong. And, anyway, a few brolly and welly shots can be fun.

Finally, do keep your photographer updated with all your wedding plans, we hate to miss a photo opportunity on the day.

I hope you have found my tips and suggestions for your wedding photography helpful. If you have a wedding planned and would like some further information please get in touch.
